The Dwarven Nations

At the edge of the civilized world, the great dwarven nations carved their cities deep into the jagged, unforgiving peaks of the Godsteeth Mountains. Content to mine for their gems and ores and to tinker with their intricate mechanical inventions, the dwarves remained aloof and uninterested in the affairs of the Near Kingdoms. But from their watchtowers at the roof of the world they saw the invading forces of the Hand’s hordes sweeping across the vast steppes of the west, and vainly sought to warn their neighbors of the impending threat of the Hundkin. Their dire warnings fell on deaf ears, however, and the dwarves were left to meet the conquerors alone among the wind-swept peaks of their mountain homes. City after city fell to the waves of invaders, and the dwarves were forced to withdraw ever deeper into their underground sanctuaries. The fate of the dwarven nations is today a mystery, as nothing has been heard from their great chieftains since the Hundkin armies swept over the Godsteeth.
